Group Homes

Metro Community Housing Association operates group homes in the Halifax / Dartmouth area which provide twenty-four hour staff support for the eight to ten people who would reside in each of the homes. The primary purpose of the group home service is to provide supportive services in a residential setting to individuals who have experienced mental health difficulties.

In an effort to provide a home-like atmosphere based upon respect for all individuals, we have established general principals for comfort, safety and security for all. As well, clients are expected to participate in daily household duties and the planning and preparation of nutritious meals.

In order to assist in the realization of client goals, the MCHA Group Home Service relies to a great extent on resources available within the community. Residents are assisted in becoming aware of, and in the use of, these resources to establish a support system for themselves.

Group Home Clients are also able to benefit from involvement with MCHA's Activities Program. Clients are assisted to explore various recreation and leisure pursuits and are encouraged to be involved in planning and participating in social activities and group events. Celebrating individual accomplishments is an important part of group home living; when staff and residents plan and celebrate graduations, employment, moving, birthdays, holidays, etc.

Residential Care Facility (RCF)

The Residential Care Facility provides support for up to 31 clients in the facility.

Small Option Homes

The MCHA Small Options Service supports clients in four bedroom houses in the Halifax and Dartmouth Area. For each small option there are three clients, one live-in support person and at least one staff person who provides support as part of a staff team. If needed the staffing support can be provided on a 24-hour basis. The staffing support for the small options are flexible and focus on the specific needs of the clients in each small option.
