MCHA supervisor Wayne Sponagle has won this year’s Nova Scotia Residential Agencies Association (NSRAA) Trailblazer Award.
The award, open to senior employees at the NSRAA’s 50 member organizations, recognizes employees who innovate to improve how we deliver to our participants and communities.
Wayne has worked for MCHA for 25 years, and as a supervisor since 2016. During that time, he:
- played a key role in the launch of Food for Thought, a grocery shopping and delivery service for our residential locations that also helped participants eat well on a budget
- co-created a user friendly system to help supervisors track their expenses and maintain budgets
- created internal training to help staff help participants with their meds, now delivered to all new residential staff
- launched MCHA’s Got Talent, a monthly evening event that gave staff and participants a chance to showcase their entertainment talent.
MCHA executive director Natasha Marsh-Hanlon said, “Wayne continues to think outside the box when it comes to how we work and the options we can offer our participants. His natural enthusiasm for the work can be contagious. He sees obstacles only as opportunities to learn and improve the way we work.”
